The sheet metal leveler has large rotating iron cylinders that press
the pieces of metal into the sheet metal. The metals most suitable for this
process are lead, copper, zinc, iron and then steel. Sometimes tin is also used
to coat iron and steel sheets to prevent rusting.
It flattens an object with a round outline, such as a wire. This can be done by
hand by hammering the wire, but usually a better result can be achieved by cold
stamping. There are two types of metal smoothing processes:
Roll leveling is a metal leveling process in which a piece of metal is passed
through one or more pairs of rollers to reduce its thickness and make it
uniform. The process can be done both hot and cold. After milling or heat
treating, the metal stock is usually outside the tarp – this helps flatten the
roll to reduce the number of waves in a panel. For example, a 160-inch leveler
can flatten material up to 480 inches long and 3 inches thick, while a 120-inch
leveler can flatten material up to 300 inches long and 1 inch thick.
Press flattening is a cold forming process in which sheet metal is flattened
with a press tool for shaping and detailing. This is the service most requested
by customers to flatten thicker slabs or when the slabs contain "short
range" "out of plane" waves. A 1500 and 1800 ton press can form
material up to 480 inches long, 160 inches wide and between 2 and 8 inches
thick, while our 350 ton press can form material up to 72 inches, a thickness
of 60 inches and a thickness of 6 inches.
Metal
sheet flattening plant services (press
and roll smoothing) are used extensively by Browning Enterprise at our Alabama
manufacturing facility to enable the company to reliably deliver high quality
raw materials and service on time at a price that is reasonable for customers.
Our experienced employees have many years of experience in the metals industry
and are proficient in a wide range of alloys, including aluminium, copper and
titanium.
